High Point Market Spring 2015: Oriental Influence

We have seen a huge flux of chinoiserie inspiration saturate the design market for the past few seasons and, in proof of its significant historic roots aesthetically, it still proves to be a lasting design motif that can sweep the spectrum from traditional and timeless (see chinoiserie screen two pictures up from bottom on right side) to cutting edge and contemporary (see green chairs in bottom left) . This spring’s market was speckled with accents among that spectrum from full on oriental themed displays to subtle accents mixed in here and there. Blue and white and orange and white ginger jars and porcelain remained seasoned staples as well as bamboo inspired furniture legs and hardware most often done in brass. Pagoda shapes, chopstick inspired monograms, ming silhouettes, foo dogs, hand painted silk screens and panels, and blocked prints featuring all of the above and similar influences were among the most common trends for this design style.
