Front Door Fabrics Home Makeover

For those of you who caught our segment on Charlotte Today and saw our blog post on our home makeover feature here is a more detailed look behind the scenes of how this all went down. First up, below are the before pictures of our excited client’s brand new town home. It has great potential and a great layout but felt dark, builder beige-y, and certainly lacked the charisma and personality of the new homeowner living there.

The client’s inspiration piece was a beautiful Moroccan rug she recently purchased on her trip there. The rug had beautiful rich colors in it and amazing patterning and we knew we wanted it to be the centerpiece of the entire design. Because the rug was very warm toned with all of the reds and golds we knew we wanted to go unexpectedly and refreshingly cool on the wall to add contrast and to provide a serene stage for all of the fun patterns and colors to pop off of. A neutralized grey-blue-green family is where we decided to land. Here are some trial and error photos of picking just the right shade. Paint can be tricky as the lighting of your space will alter the appearance of the color on the card and our designers are happy to help you in narrowing down the right hue!

Next up, finding all the details from furniture to lighting from rugs to artwork and accessories. The Moroccan rug was too small for the room so we decided to employ a layered rug design selecting a tonal and neutral feeling geometric rug that reiterated the Moroccan feel but expanded the overall impact the small accent rug had. The client knew she wanted navy for the sofa so a gorgeous velvet custom Wesley Hall piece was designed for her with custom accent pillows pulling in the various accent colors of the rug. In order to keep the room feeling fresh and current and not too Moroccan bazaar themed we then established balance with the juxtaposition of modern accents in a large abstract artwork piece, Barcelona chair and ottoman, and metallic ottoman and accent tables. Pops of color were continuously distributed with pillows, throws, and accessories.

Lots of accent lighting warms up the space making it feel inviting and cozy. An overhead drum pendant replaced the builder grade lighting previously installed and an eclectic mix of lamps bounces a warm glow around the room.

Because of all the color and pattern in the pillows, rugs, ottoman, and bar stools we decided to keep the custom drapery simple with a slubby linen panel with indigo batik inspired tape trim down the leading edge further tying in the navy accents. French return hardware in a gold finish is sleek and streamlined adding to the modern edge and reiterating all of the gold metallic accents and accessories.

We carried the ottoman fabric into the kitchen in a custom box pleated valance corded in a micro navy cord to carry the theme into the other room. The client is extending her ledge into a bar area eventually so custom barstools in a fun accent pattern were pre selected and a swivel base allows them to serve as additional seating in the living room when needed.

Obviously, we had to get Stella’s stamp of approval! Also a closeup of the drapery details.

An eclectic mix of accessory items were selected to add to the layered feel of the room. From traditional blue and white porcelain, to antique and global inspired Chinese bells, to modern gold spheres and dishes this room is all about mixing styles, patterns, colors, and metals which is what gives it such a unique aesthetic personality, depth, and range.

This gorgeous antique Chinese chest in a stunning cobalt hue provides additional storage and a beautiful focal point in the room. One of our new geode starbursts adds a modern flair and reiterates the color scheme beautifully.

Large scale artwork over the sofa helps to anchor this vantage point, provide another point of emphasis, and reinforces our accent color scheme.
